Performing a Cloud Push Deployment

Note: This section assumes that you have already captured your image and that it is available via local disk or network share, and your required Platform Packs have been downloaded. 

Configure Package, Answer File, and Media

  1. Upload the Cloud Package
    1. Open the SmartDeploy Console.
    2. In the Activities workspace, click Upload Cloud Package.
    3. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
    4. Select your preferred Cloud Storage Provider.
    5. Provide the username and password for the Cloud Storage Provider.
    6. Return to the SmartDeploy Upload Wizard.
    7. Confirm there is a green checkmark on your select Cloud Storage Provider and click Next.
    8. Click Browse to browse to and select your image file, and then click Next.
    9. By default, all your Platform Packs will be selected to upload to the cloud. You may de-select any packs that you do not wish to upload, and then click Next.
    10. Click Finish to complete the upload process.
    11. Click OK when the upload completes.
       
  2. Create the Answer File
    1. Return to the SmartDeploy Console.
    2. In the Activities workspace, click Create Answer File.
    3. Configure any settings or customizations in the Advanced menu as needed.
    4. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
    5. Select Cloud storage provider and click Next.
    6. Select your preferred Cloud Storage Provider and click Next.
      Note: You should see a green checkmark above the provider used when the Cloud Package upload was complete. Use this storage provider.
    7. Click Browse to view the Cloud Images available.
    8. Click the folder named after your image, then click to select the image .swm file and then click Select.
    9. Review the image details to confirm you have the correct image selected and then click Next.
    10. Click OK when prompted to validate the image.
    11. Continue through the Answer File Wizard as normal, applying your Naming, Data Migration, Network, and Regional settings as desired.
    12. Recommended: Save your Answer File in C:\SmartDeploy\Answer Files\ with a name that annotates the Cloud Deployment configuration.
       
  3. Create Boot Media
    1. Return to the SmartDeploy Console.
    2. In the Activities workspace, click Create Media.
    3. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
    4. Select Deployment Package.
    5. By default, all your Platform Packs will be selected to have any WinPE drivers they contain injected into your SmartDeploy boot image. You may de-select any packs for devices that will not receive this boot image, and then click Next.
    6. Click Browse and then browse to and select your Answer File that’s configured to use the Cloud Package and then click Next.
    7. Select the desired architecture and then click Next.
    8. Specify a name for this Deployment Package and then click Next.
    9. Leave ‘Upload to Cloud’ selected and click Next.
    10. Select your preferred Cloud Storage Provider and click Next.
      Note: You should see a green checkmark above the provider used when the Cloud Package upload was complete. Use this storage provider.
    11. Click Finish.

Note: If the SmartDeploy Client Agent is unable to reach the SmartDeploy Console Host on the local network, it will use the Cloud Broker service to reach the SmartDeploy Console host. Clients in this configuration will list “Cloud” in the Connection Type column in the Computer Management workspace.
 

Perform a Cloud Push Deployment

  1. Initiate Deployment
    1. Open the SmartDeploy Console.
    2. Switch to the Computer Management workspace.
    3. Select the group (if any) containing the target computer.
    4. Right-Click the target computer, mouse over Deploy, and click Now.
    5. Toggle the Deployment Package drop-down menu and select the desired deployment package.
    6. Confirm the Image Location is Cloud and then click OK.
      Note: It will take 5 or more minutes for the instructions to reach the client, and the SmartDeploy Deployment Package to download before the deployment process will begin.
