SmartDeploy Client Installation

In order to do Cloud push or console initiated deployments over your network to endpoints that are already running Windows, you'll need to install the SmartDeploy client. Or, if the SmartDeploy client is already installed and you've recently updated the version of SmartDeploy on your SmartDeploy server, you'll need to install the latest version of the clients on your endpoints. You can install the client manually, or via group policy or another scripting method.

Installing the SmartDeploy Client v2.0.3020 and newer:

Generate Client Setup File

  1. Open the SmartDeploy Console.
  2. Switch to the Activities workspace.
  3. Click Add Devices.
  4. Click Generate Client Setup.
  5. Conform the correct Server Name is set.
  6. Click Browse and specify a name and location to save the file.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Install the SmartDeploy Client:

Manual Installation:

  1. Copy the SDEClientSetup.msi file to the target device
  2. Double-Click SDEClientSetip.msi
  3. On the Welcome Screen; Click Next.
  4. Select ‘I accept…” and click Next.
  5. Specify the Hostname or IP of the SmartDeploy Console Host and click Next.
  6. Click Install.

Scripted Installation:

  1. The SmartDeploy client can be silently installed via command line or script by specifying the /quiet parameter: FILEPATH\SDEClientSetup.msi /quiet

Installation via Group Policy:

  1. Please see this knowledge base article for guidance using Group Policy to install the client. 

Note: If the SmartDeploy Client Agent is unable to reach the SmartDeploy Console Host on the local network, it will use the Cloud Broker service to reach the SmartDeploy Console host. Clients in this configuration will list “Cloud” in the Connection Type column in the Computer Management workspace.
